Who doesn’t like a moody and retro electro-pop banger? I certainly do. So when I heard ROOM8’s “This Place Again,” featuring singer-songwriter Polina, I was pleased beyond repair.

It’s the second single from the duo’s forthcoming EP, following “No Hard Feelings,” the collaboration with King Deco that was released in May.

This time, the duo drops the bittersweet bubblegum vibe for a more intense club experience, solidifying the idea that Ezra Reich and Nic Johns can bring on the disco house as deftly as they can 80s synth-pop revivals and indie-pop gems.

In many ways, “Place” sounds more like a companion piece to ROOM8’s collaborations with Electric Youth — “Visions of You” and “Without You” — than “Feelings,” which was co-written with pop craftsman Kinetics. “Place” is a beautiful onslaught of bubbly bass, shimmering and fuzzy synthesizers, atmospheric synth pads, and a tight back beat. Polina’s deep, evocative voice fits this minor-key composition supremely well.

Check it out below, show it some love on Hype Machine and then maybe buy it so they can keep making more music:
