PREMIERE: 2 Tracks from New Burning Witches Records Tape Comp ‘PIECES’

The gents at England-based Burning Witches Records are celebrating their label’s second birthday this month with a particularly haunting compilation of horror synth EPs entitled PIECES, Vol. 1-3. It’s three tapes, each with a different pairing of artists: Graham Reznick, Deadly Avenger, All of Them Witches, BurningTapes, Repeated Viewing, and Espectrostatic. What a lineup!

Today, Vehlinggo premieres two tracks from the releases. One is the exquisite “Hollown,” from Reznick, who is currently promoting his new Shudder show Deadwax. The other is the killer “Pursuit,” by All of Them Witches (AKA Gary Dimes, who along with BurningTapes’ Darren Page, runs BWR). Listen ASAP. These songs are great. Since its inception in 2016, BWR has made sure our October is a damn fine one.

The tapes are, of course, timed for the Halloween season, but they also commemorate how it all began for BWR: with horror-themed cassettes of scores for imagined movies.

Six individual EPs are packaged into three split cassette releases, each side complementing the other. Basically, it’s 20 minutes of horror from each artist built out into three volumes.

Dimes and Page are releasing the tapes one week apart from Oct. 12 until Oct. 26. Every second of these artists’ contributions is a gorgeously frightening adventure and underscores yet again that BWR is one of the best and most consistent labels out there for synth score fans.

Volume 1, featuring Repeated Viewing and BurningTapes, will be available Friday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m British time, with immediate shipping. Visit burningwitchesrecords.com and BWR’s Bandcamp page. Read on for more detailed information about the release.

Here’s the breakdown of PIECES

Vol. 1: Repeated Viewing and BurningTapes
Vol. 2: Espectrostatic and All of Them Witches
Vol. 3: Deadly Avenger and Graham Reznick

The cassettes come in a blood-soaked color shell with “O” card slipcase and artwork by the inimitable Luke Insect.

Each volume is limited to 120 copies worldwide. So pay attention.

Speaking of Halloween-related things, Burning Witches recently had vinyl duties for the debut solo release for Daniel Davies’ Events Score, which Lakeshore Records released digitally. Davies worked on the score to the new Halloween, alongside John and Cody Carpenter.
