Regular Vehlinggo readers are quite familiar with Lo Recordings co-founder Jon Tye’s work with ocean gaze/new age duo Seahawks, or perhaps his classic projects such as Cherry Garcia. Now he’s back with a new ambient solo project called Ocean Moon. Debut album World of Light is out now and today Vehlinggo is premiering Janine Rook’s hypnotic video for the record’s title cut.
The mesmerizing visuals and transcendent aural enthrall of the “World of Light” music video show some of the ambient, new age characteristics of Tye’s work with Peter Fowler on Seahawks, but this time around the music is stripped down to the essentials and is beatless (the whole album lacks drums, actually). In times of highly uncontrollable kinesis, Tye’s work proves to be clarifying and thought-provoking. It provides a sense of serenity and focus that invites a feeling of quiet confidence and interconnectedness.

World of Light, available digitally and on CD, is Tye’s first wholly beat-free record since iO, which he released as MLO back in 1994. At the time he was releasing on such labels as Rising High, Ninja Tune, R&S, and Reflective.
The new project and album amount to the third installment in Lo Recordings’ ongoing Spaciousness series, a “deeply phased and resonant collection” recorded high on a hill in Cornwall over the last two years, according to Lo. World of Light is poised to bring you to another plane of existence, tapping into the sonic world of the likes of Terry Riley, Fripp and Eno, Pauline Anna Strom, and J.D. Emmanuel.
