Video Premiere: Kid Moxie’s Resonant ‘Slow Escape’ from ‘Not To Be Unpleasant…’

Kid Moxie is one of the most intriguing newer film composers out there. She crafts gorgeous and richly evocative synth-driven and organic compositions that have an indelible emotional intelligence to them. Today, Vehlinggo is proud to premiere the mesmerizing music video for the exquisite “Slow Escape,” from Kid Moxie’s score for Giorgos Georgopoulos’ film Not To Be Unpleasant, But We Need to Have a Serious Talk.

“This is the main theme as it creeps in and out throughout the entire movie,” Kid Moxie (AKA Elena Charbila) said in a press release. “I feel like it contains a sense of restrained urgency, which is very much the emotional undercurrent of the film. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but so is the track’s title. I mean why would one choose to escape slowly?”

About director Joe Rubinstein’s video for “Slow Escape,” here is what Charbila says: “Joe delivered this gorgeous slow-motion video of flowers blooming and decaying which — to me — alluded to love blossoming and then dying. The film is all about that and I can’t think of something more romantic and melancholic, so those images really spoke to me.”

Not To Be Unpleasant, But We Need to Have a Serious Talk is about a womanizer named Aris, who finds out he is a carrier of a sexually transmitted virus that is lethal only to women. But he is also the only hope for creating a vaccine, if he finds which one of his ex-girlfriends had the first viral strain.

The Greece-born, LA-resident Charbila’s original motion picture soundtrack to Not To Be Unpleasant, But We Need to Have a Serious Talk is available now from Lakeshore Records on Bandcamp and streaming platforms.

Vehlinggo readers will not only dig Charbila’s synthy film scores, but they’ll also appreciate her collaboration with Angelo Badalamenti. On her second album, 1888, Charbila teamed up with the longtime David Lynch musical partner for a rework of “Mysteries of Love,” from Julee Cruise’s1989 Lynch- and Badalamenti-produced album Floating into the Night.
