Is a New Desire Album Coming This Summer?

Desire — one of Italians Do It Better’s original bands and contributor of “Under Your Spell” to the Drive soundtrack — have announced a followup LP to their 2009 debut studio album. Escape, a “tale of love and lust cloaked in an analog sheen,” is scheduled for a summer release. Check out the video for the exquisitely kinetic title cut:

The video artistry by the likes of Robotina, Alessandro Strickner, Sara Taigher, and Jarred Hageman will be familiar to those who saw Desire perform live with Chromatics and In Mirrors last year on their big tour. (They’ve also worked on several other videos for IDIB.)

Desire – Escape tracklist

The first album, II, from Desire’s Megan Louise, Johnny Jewel, and Nat Walker came out in 2009 during a very different time for the band, and the IDIB label in general. (You can read more about it in my in-depth Drive soundtrack piece and listen to my Vehlinggo Podcast episode dedicated to the Desire debut’s 10th anniversary.)

Eleven years later, along with Chromatics and Glass Candy, Desire are a tent-pole group amid a host of compelling new members of the IDIB family, including Tess Roby, Vehlinggo Comp contributor In Mirrors, Pink Gloves, Jorja Chalmers, Krakow Loves Adana, Heaven, Orion, Double Mixte, and so many more talented souls.

The first single from Escape, the band’s second studio album, finds the trio’s music infused with lycra-tight rhythms, colorfully engaging melodies, and Megan Louise’s familiar vocal allure. If the rest of the album is like this, we’re in for a beautiful celebration at that moment when we can safely escape our homes again.
