Composer Volker Bertelmann, the maestro of treated piano and other fine experiments, has firmly left his fingerprints all over the engaging music for Netflix’s mission-to-Mars thriller, Stowaway. So it’s great news that on March 18 Lakeshore Records will release his deft blend of piano, orchestra, and electronics on vinyl. And today, Vehlinggo reveals the art and pre-order details for you vinyl soundtrack lovers.
The Academy Award-nominated Bertelmann is also known as Hauschka and has scored the likes of Hotel Mumbai and Your Honor (and, with Dustin O’Halloran, The Old Guard, Ammonite, and Lion, among others). Stowaway, directed by Joe Penna and written by Penna and Ryan Morrison, stars Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette, Daniel Dae Kim, and Shamier Anderson, and is currently streaming on Netflix. The film centers on a mission to Mars in which the crew finds a stowaway (Anderson) who accidentally messes up the spaceship’s life support systems. The crew (Kendrick, Collette, and Kim) are tested profoundly as they face potential death. Bertelmann’s preternatural ability to complement what’s on the screen without trying to manipulate the audience is a key feature of this sci-fi film from the makers of Arctic.
