Some great music came into my purview this week. This is only some of it.
Justice – “Safe and Sound”
At a time when we don’t feel terribly safe, Justice returns with a sound bathed in their quintessential French House topped with classic disco. I’m so glad they’re back.
Osmo – “Le Parc”
Speaking of French sounds, Swedish producer Osmo’s debut single, “Le Parc,” sounds like he’s been listening to a lot of Sébastien Tellier. Specifically, the Steak soundtrack Tellier did with fellow French geniuses SebastiAn and Mr. Oizo, who directed the 2007 film. It’s great.
Teen Detective – “I Want to See the Good”
It’s downtempo but upbeat. It’s happy and even a little quirky, but there’s a bleakness underneath it. I don’t know much about the artist, other than that she’s based out of the excellent Boston suburb of Somerville.
Midas Hutch – “Get Mine (Ft. Shakka)”
Midas Hutch (AKA FS Green) crafts brilliant funk/R&B tracks. You might remember the killer cut he did with singer Bluey Robinson earlier this year.
This time, he’s tapped more into the tropical vibe, even while retaining the sound we enjoy out of the Dutch producer. It sounds a bit like Classixx crossed with a little Mad Decent and a whole lot of Omega Supreme.
The Gifted – “Into the Night (Feat. Jordan Witzigreuter)”
LA-based The Gifted is Louis Castle and James Bairian. Their dark synthpop number has shades of 80s retroism, like a ghoulish The 1975. It’s sufficiently creepy, while sounding oddly reassuring.
