PREMIERE: ‘Your Honor’ Score Track by Volker Bertelmann

Your Honor, out now on Showtime, is Bryan Cranston’s latest compelling TV series, and composer Volker Bertelmann brings his well-known penchant for experimentation to the mix. Today, Vehlinggo premieres the captivating track “Burial,” which is on the soundtrack album that Lakeshore Records will release tomorrow.

Bertelmann — known for his work on Lion, Ammonite, and The Old Guard and a frequent collaborator with Dustin O’Halloran — has earned global renown for his approach to prepared piano and percussive experimentation. For “Burial” from Your Honor, a show about a New Orleans-based judge whose integrity and ethics are called into question through a series of heartbreaking events, the composer cultivates a solemn and energetic dose of string-driven trepidation. You can pre-order and pre-save the album right now.

Here’s what Bertelmann (AKA Hauschka) had to say about his work on Your Honor:

“Working on Your Honor was a huge pleasure. The showrunner Peter Moffat gave me a lot of freedom to experiment and in my collaboration with director Edward Berger on the first three episodes, we set the tonality for the show. I worked with him previously on Patrick Melrose and it is a gift to have had him as a collaborator once again. The diversity that the score demanded granted me the opportunity to experiment with many different instruments and that is what I love most about the process of creating a score. I experimented with numerous prepared piano sounds, diverse percussion instruments, a bass clarinet, and recorded a lot of breathing noises and textures—all of which are featured on the soundtrack. I am very thankful that I could be a part of such a well-crafted series.”

About Your Honor

The 10-episode legal thriller stars Cranston as Michael Desiato, a respected New Orleans judge whose teenage son, Adam (Hunter Doohan), is involved in a hit-and-run that leads to a high-stakes game of dangerous lies, tests of morality and ethics, and impossible choices. SAG Award winner Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me By Your Name) stars as Jimmy Baxter, the much-feared head of a crime family opposite Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Hope Davis (For the People) as his wife, Gina, who might be even more dangerous than Jimmy. The series also stars Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire), and Sofia Black-D’Elia (The Night Of).
