I’m going to interrupt my weekslong binge of synth scores to bring you two killer remixes of pop songs.
Vehlinggo stalwarts Pr0files and Paperwhite are popular electronic artists whose reach is far grander than it was when I first started writing about them a couple years ago. Because people love them, artists often want to remix them. This often ends up as a beautiful thing. Today are two such examples.
Pr0files – ‘Get It Up (Aurean Remix)’
Aurean are a different type of duo than Pr0files: The former are based in Washington, D.C. and have some healthy house and trance influences; while the latter are Los Angeles-based and traffic in synthy dark disco that would sound right at home on After Dark. The end result of the pairing of styles is an upbeat groover, bringing some light to the dark — or at least pushing events of the evening a few hours earlier.
Here’s the original “Get It Up,” which was included on the exquisite album Jurassic Technologie. Want to know more about Pr0files? Check out this big interview I did with them last year. I also interviewed the duo for my big fifth anniversary feature on Drive.
Paperwhite – ‘Only Us (Young Bombs Remix)’
Young Bombs turns Paperwhite’s dreamy synth-pop into a high-energy excursion. The song is wrapped in one idea, according to Young Bombs’ SoundCloud page: “Only we can make the difference and inspire people to follow. Let’s make this world a place we want to live in.” The uplifting composition of this remix might do just that.
The original version of “Only Us” has been streamed at least 5 million times so far on Spotify. Also, read my interview with Paperwhite.
