Today’s One-Liners is a bit unconventional. You’ll find that all of the reviews are markedly not a single line. To that, I say “Alexa, type the shoulder shrug emoji.”
Orion – “Time for Crime”
Providence, Rhode Island-based Orion is one the newest members of the Italians Do It Better family. Her new single, “Time for Crime,” is an icy hot track for struts around questionable places on balmy nights under neon lights. Orion’s devil-may-care vocals sit gracefully atop a forthright synth bass and uplifting synth melodies that are wrapped tightly around a drum machine filled with intent. It’ll leave you wanting repeat listens and hoping for more from Orion.
Lou Rebecca – “Waiting”
It goes without saying that French Texan Lou Rebecca is one of the best acts out there. She and her co-producer Josh Mills (AKA Missions) bring a chic, vivacious, and contemplative spirit to the Holodeck Records roster. “Waiting,” from album Restless, coming in September, marks a true high-point for an artist full of them. (The Rebecca-directed video is fantastic, too.)
Jason Priest – “Wise”
Giallo Disco Records co-founder and film score composer Antoni Maiovvi wears many faces — Jason Priest is one of the most exciting. “Wise,” the upbeat first single from the forthcoming Nightmare Boy EP, sets the stage for a story firmly planted in a 1988 filled with decadence and misaligned expectations. I’m really looking forward to Nightmare Boy for many reasons, but one of them is its Mecha Maiko and Let ‘Em Riot collaborations. (The Vehlinggo Podcast listeners will recognize Jason Priest — in December I played a song off the first EP, King-Kill/33°.)
Futurecop & Parallels – “This Moment Forever (Radio Wolf Remix)”
By far my favorite iteration of the song from Futurecop!’s latest album, Voltrana. Radio Wolf is a master at synth-tinged guitar rock that wears its ’80s on its sleeve. (For more, check out his fantastic EP Rock ‘n’ Roll Forever — bonus embed below).
