Oh Baby’s The Art of Sleeping Alone is one of my favorite releases of the year. Today, I’m happy to premiere the exquisite music video for “What We Do,” a darkly enticing blast of guitar-laced synth-pop bliss. New Order fans rejoice!
You can buy the release on sunny yellow vinyl right now via Burning Witches Records or head over to your favorite record shop. It is also, naturally, streaming everywhere.
Oh Baby (Rick Hornby and Jen Devereux) was founded “to fill a void in their own record collections, specifically between the letters N and P,” according to the band. They wanted a sound that depicts “factories at dusk, an aversion to sentimentality, and an electronic take on the human condition.”
“What We Do” is the first track Oh Baby penned for their debut album, and is the band’s attempt to create the sound of revisited memories — specifically those that seem to stay in certain physical spaces. As a band they are just as inspired by buildings, rooms, and places as other people or other sounds. With this video Oh Baby wanted to somehow try and demonstrate that but also keep that same sense of lost innocence that is in the song.
The video for “What We Do” is directed by Mark Lediard and produced by James Baxter for J6 Films.
