Von Hertzog’s new album, Sincerely Yours, isn’t released until May 19, but here’s something to hold you over: The Vehlinggo Premiere of “Midnight Mode,” a strut-laden cut from the forthcoming album.
The retrosynth track’s name is appropriate. A good chunk of the album is nostalgic, lighter fare, but on this one Von switches on a dirty, sleazy “midnight” mode. The type of sleaze is debatable — this could be the soundtrack to some rough love or some large-scale battle between old foes, intertwined by the intimacy of decades of sustained antipathy — but it’s there.
