Synth Legends OMD Kick Off 40th Anniv. North American Tour This Month

Iconic British group Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, featuring co-founders Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, are bringing their band to Brooklyn Steel on April 29 and 30 as part of their OMD 40 Years – Greatest Hits tour to celebrate the band’s noteworthy milestone. Though you don’t have to be in Brooklyn to enjoy them, because the tour is hitting a slew of hotspots around the US and Canada. Tickets are on sale now.

OMD are known as much for numbers like “Electricity,” “Enola Gay,” “Souvenir,” and Pretty In Pink‘s “If You Leave,” as they are for sonic experiments such as the musique concrète laden Dazzle Ships. In other words, they helped to create and refine the entire synth-pop genre for years — over the course of more than 40 million records sold and 13 albums released.

They’ve still been making waves since their return more than a decade ago, with 2017’s exquisite The Punishment of Luxury their most recent album. (Check out Vehlinggo’s interview with McCluskey for more on that period.) The tour follows the 40th anniversary box-set release, Souvenir, last year.

Along with In the Valley Below, OMD will kick off their tour in Orlando on April 22 and make their way around the US and Canada, culminating in a May 26 soiree at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Dates and ticket links are below, where possible:
