Le Matos, Mecha Maiko Team Up For First Release on Their New Label ‘Right Click 2 Download’

Mecha Maiko and Le Matos have teamed up to re-envision a couple of their classic singles to kick off their new label, Right Click 2 Download. Details on the new label are minimal right now, but if this new Mecha Matos release is any indication, this is going to be a killer outfit.

Montreal-based Le Matos (Jean-Philippe Bernier and Jean-Nicolas Leupi) and Toronto-based Mecha Maiko (Hayley Stewart) have long been big draws in the wistfulwave/synthwave/dance music world — the duo releasing the storied Join Us and scoring films such as Turbo Kid and Summer of 84, and Mecha earning a Juno nomination (basically, a Canadian Grammy) for her most recent album, NOT OK.

This two-track release, Mecha Matos, sees the trio rework Mecha’s Mad but Soft title track into propulsive and melodic club banger — the kind that stimulates the neurons of your imagination and bounces forcefully around your chest cavity.

Join Us gem “Montrose” becomes a vocal number, with Stewart’s ethereal vocals offering a delectably spectral complement to the spacey synths and tight beats of the original.

Together, these two cuts make for a downright impressive debut for the new label. More details to come as they emerge.

You can buy it off Bandcamp or stream it in places. (You can, of course, right click to download it via the label’s site.)

Full disclosure: I’ve written liner notes for both Le Matos and Mecha Maiko, and they have contributed to Vehlinggo’s 5 Years compilation and otherwise have been connected to Vehlinggo for years in various capacities. That said, this is fantastic art that I’d cover regardless of this.
