Bottin, the pioneer of so-called “horror disco” and one-half of analog experimental dance outfit Deardrums, has a hot new disco-pop single coming out tomorrow on 2MR. “YAML,” featuring the pipes of Lavinia Claws, is a damn good time.
The iteration below is the extended version, which gives you more of the following: transcendently understated synths; Lavinia’s hypnotic and icy vox; a double-dose of fat arps; and a tight and confident backbeat.
While Deardrums is a project I enjoy immensely, it’s nice to see Bottin back with a mind-expanding thing of beauty like this.
Buy it on digital and/or vinyl at 2MR tomorrow, or just preorder it today.
One more thing: If you love Bottin’s brand of disco — or any brand of modern disco, really — check out his brilliant 2014 album Punica Fades, which features a cut with Steve Strange of Visage on vox. (Claws shows up, too).
