Introducing the latest Vehlinggo Presents release: Softaware – ‘Lavender’

I’m proud to announce the latest Vehlinggo Presents curated release: Dallas-based Softaware’s new single “Lavender,” premiering here today and available for digital purchase/stream everywhere on April 19.

(You can buy it today if you use Bandcamp — link updated 4/17/2020 with new Bandcamp account page.)

Sit back and be enveloped in the synthy and dreamy bliss of the ethereal layers of the music of Colin Nance (AKA as one-half of Harglow) and collaborator Lauren Todd. When I first heard this track — and its apparent Cocteau Twins and M83 references — I knew I had to get it out there. Basically, fans of early 4AD will embrace this cut immensely. (Fans of Johnny Jewel’s recent remixes of Zola Jesus will enjoy the “Phantom Limbs Remix” that is part of the two-track release.)

Here’s what Nance had to say about the song: This song — among others that I was working on at the time — is about change. I started writing it right after moving to Austin from Oklahoma City. A new environment, new feelings, and new perspectives.

I had kind of lost faith in the track. I got all the instrumentation where I wanted it, but I just couldn’t seem to find my voice with it.

It wasn’t fully realized until after I met Lauren. We decided that we wanted to collaborate and so I began working on a new song just to find myself coming back around to this particular track again. Lauren breathed a new light and helped me find a solace within the song that I couldn’t find on my own.

Right before I made another transition/change in my life by moving away from Austin, we recorded Lauren’s vocals over two nights. It was our only shot to get it right and, as weary as we were that second night, she nailed it.

About Vehlinggo Presents

Vehlinggo Presents is a line of releases that I curate/executive produce, and now even release through Vehlinggo. The first one was Memoryy’s Not Over You remix EP, released last year and which features contributions from Drinker (Arie Loh, The Eyes of My Mother score); Highway Superstar (St. Lucia remixer, Kung Fury); Acidulé (Cassius remixer); Von Hertzog (Information Society collaborator); and Dutch synth-pop maestros LGHTNNG.

Lavender represents the first Vehlinggo Presents item released through Vehlinggo. There will be at least one other release — a 5th anniversary compilation — coming in the fall.
