Invada Records boss and co-owner Redg Weeks is well known for his deep musical knowledge and curative talent — after all, his is a label that releases Drive, Mandy, Annihilation, Devs, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, You Were Never Really Here, and so many other scores and soundtracks on vinyl. (And let’s not forget the studio albums from the likes of College, Beak>, and The KVB.) It’s very safe and easy to say that Bristol-based Invada, a frequent Lakeshore Records partner, is one of the absolute best score/soundtrack labels out there.
On that note, I’m excited to announce that Weeks has curated an exquisite Vehlinggo playlist, laden with tracks from Invada’s own score/soundtrack releases, in addition to those from a host of other labels. The composers represented include Cliff Martinez, Warren Ellis, Jóhan Jóhannson, Bobby Krlic, Mica Levi, Hildur Gudnadottir, Jonny Greenwood, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Disasterpeace, Ben Salisbury, Geoff Barrow, Daniel Lopatin, Colin Stetson, Blanck Mass, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and so many more.
I’d recommend you hit “play” on this 50-track list and let it flow. Weeks hasn’t just slapped together a bunch of tracks on a list. He weaves a new narrative from three hours of cues from an array of different films and TV shows — stories that don’t always seem complementary at first, but the music says otherwise. Maybe you’ll hear your favorite cues from your favorite film or series, but hopefully you’ll experience some you haven’t heard before. And if you really dig something, go and buy the download or vinyl. (If it’s an Invada release, go here.)
